One of the core ideas underlying KIT is that with a little bit of effort and ingenuity, anyone can have access to high-end, custom furniture.

We reached out to Kyle Anderson from Milwaukee Wisconsin to hear about his experience building a custom live-edge dining room table for his family using our 28" x 28" double legs. In terms of his background he’s been woodworking since shop classes in high school (going on 15+ years), mainly creating craft projects for friends and family.  Prior to this build he had a lot of experience with many different woodworking techniques, but this was the first live edge table he’d built.

Why were you drawn to this particular product? Any features or benefits stand out?

I really appreciated some of the thoughtful design features including the adjustable feet, oversized mounting platform that was close to 1/4" thick, and included mounting hardware so I had everything I needed to finish my project.

How did you intend for the legs to be used? What did you use for table material? Were there other options you considered?

My wife had been asking for a live edge table for some time and I wanted to build a table with a strong frame/legs without being overly bulky, that's when the decision was made to use a set of steel table legs. The top was made out of 2" thick live edge slabs of black walnut harvested from local forests in Wisconsin. I did consider many leg options and designs but finally landed on Kit&Co's based on  the design, quality and value of them.

Can you take us through some of the highlights of the build process? Did you run into any issues and how did you overcome?

The slabs I originally purchased were super warped which meant I had a lot of millwork to do to plane them flat, it also meant I got a great deal on the lumber. After fighting with these huge heavy slabs to finally get them flat I used dominos to ensure the table would be as flat as possible during my glue-up.  There was a lot of character to the wood which included some curly areas as well as knots, cracks, and wormholes that I used black CA glue to fill, I think in the end it all adds visual interest to the final product. Once the table top was finished I attached the legs and made sure everything looked good prior to adding a hardwax oil finish to the top. The slotted holes in the legs was a nice feature to account for any wood movement within the top.

Why choose KIT&Co?

There were many options when shopping around for table legs for my project online, it's hard to determine the quality of something you're buying online prior to receiving it. From Kit&Co's website and story (small business/startup) I thought I'd give them a try and was beyond happy that I did. They've been great to work with, customer service has been nothing short of fantastic, and their products are manufactured to a quality much higher than my expectations for the price I paid.

Overall I'm very happy with Kit&Co as a company and will be returning for other project needs in the future.
